So… the end of summer, the beginning of year numero dos here at SJU.
Well, for one thing, I never wrote about Tanger Day in my few summer entries. It was awhile ago, seems almost stupid to be writing about it now, but I’ve just gotta say it was a good day. Except I spent over $100, which was NOT cool. Still makes me sick thinking about it. Tanger II > Tanger I. Suffolk County people are so much nicer than Nassau County people (the cashier at Aeropostale was awesome). And, of course, trendy hats. We are so damn trendy.
The last weekend before we all started leaving was spent at Wading River. Missy, Angie, and I headed out early Friday afternoon to clean and go food shopping and prepare for the rest of the remedies. Also, naturally, we climbed down the infamous wooden staircase to the beach to watch the sunset. What a great afternoon, seriously. I <3 my big-boobed remedies. Cabe and Mich joined us after we’d had a lovely taco dinner and later in the evening, Diane completed the group. Both nights were complete with dark chocolate fondue and lots of talking. Saturday was Splish Splash (naturally), where we were joined by the Stigs, Diana, and Alex. Amazing weather. Not too hot, not too cold. It was just a little cloudy, but not raining, so the lines were short. Diane thought there was a Pink Floyd Parkway, a Led Zeppelin Drive, and a Doors Ave. Sunday we made a quick trip to Tanger again and then closed up the house and returned home. It was a great little weekend escape just for us.
The last week home was a blur:
I don’t remember Monday, Tuesday was the night we had to say goodbye to the one, the only Robby. Also, Tuesday we had a mini Hannah Kroner reunion! Rachel, Joan, Julie, and I went to Friday’s on Northern where we had quite the entertaining dinner catching up and reminiscing. Fred/Brett/Jose Cuervo, pissing off random people, “pumping it” Miss Regina style in the parking lot, and a brownie obsession eating contest that Julie and I definitely won. We plan to do it again winter break, and I can’t wait.
Wednesday was our final banana dinner of the summer. Burros had already gone, but the other eight of us all made it. We went to an Italian place in Forest Hills, by Ryan’s, and I had the most amazing penne alla vodka I think I’ve ever had in my life. Then we said our goodbyes.
Thursday was goodbye to the other Stig. We all helped Joe finish packing and load everything into his car, then we sat in the driveway for awhile.
Friday after work I went to Anthony’s (from Public Safety) barbeque. It was fun, and we played a little B.S. (I know some of you will appreciate that). After that it was time to bid farewell to two remedies, Missy and Diane.
Saturday I woke up and decided, “Hey, since I’m moving in tomorrow, maybe I should pack.” So that’s what I did. I got up at 12 and the bulk of it was done by 4 (with a little help from the folks). My mom dyed my hair again and I did a few more last-minute things. Then Ang, Cabe, Mich, Diana, and Joe (D) came over for one last summer hangout. We chilled on my deck and had a great conversation about a wide variety of topics. (“Wow guys… we covered a lot of ground tonight.”) Oh how I love them.
Sunday was move-in day! It was quite exciting to see everyone again and unpack in our new, glorious suite. I absolutely love it, especially since we’ve pimped it out. I can’t even explain it, you all just need to come visit me and see for yourselves. The suite, the room, everything is just incredible. Things are going great here so far. We’re having so much fun. We learned how to play poker (which I for some reason still have severe difficulty with), and I actually won one of the nights! Christine got a new Scene-It, which rocks. And of course we’ve played Phase 10, which I won for the first time EVER the other night! Our common room is now equipped with a 27 inch TV, a necessary commodity in our world. TV nights this year are even more hardcore than last year.
Classes, so far, are decent. Economics SUCKS a big one, but what can you do? Business Writing is great because Christine and I managed to switch into the section taught by the one, the only, JACK P. FRANZETTI. Oh, how we <3 that man. Italian is awesome. The professor is great, and it’s fun trying to learn a new language. Plus, Lauren’s in that class, so I get to see my former floormate who now lives in another building. Which reminds me, I visited all my former floormates the other day! It was so great to see them (AKA “observing brown people” hahahahaha I love you girls) and their suite. I miss bumping into them in the lounge. Intro to Mass Communications is good so far, I like that professor too and the class is actually kind of interesting. And my fifth class, Contemporary Cinema, is AWESOME so far! We watched On the Waterfront this week, and it was incredible. All I can say is Marlon Brando = sex.
Holy shit, the “Fix You” video is on. ……….. Wow. I’m all sweaty. My vision just went blurry. I can’t even…
NOTE TO SELF: Write an Official Concert Whore entry.
So, where was I? This year at SJU has been fantastic so far. All we do in our suite is laugh at freakin everything. Seriously, it’s the most exercise I get. Except, of course, for our city adventures. Last week Emily had Mandy and Casey, her Australian friends from IGC, visiting. They were adorable, and so much fun. Mandy referred to the Statue of Liberty as “The lady holding the thing.” We went to the city last weekend and after I saw The Constant Gardener (which I found to be very well done) for my contemporary cinema class, I met up with Emily, Mandy, Casey, Christine, and Christie at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square.
Ugh. “Wake Me Up When September Ends” video just came on. But it’s ok, I changed the channel. Honestly, I think this is the least satisfied I’ve ever been with anything relating to Billie Joe, Mike, and Tre. (Who, by the way, fucking rocked like nothing else on September 1, but that should be saved for that Concert Whore entry I’m going to write… probably never.)
We went to the Italian feast in Little Italy today. It was cool, we had fried Oreos (yeah, that perplexed me too). Then we got tired of the grease, the crowds, and everything else so we wandered over to the Village, where Jen got some Taco Bell and we had a great debate over the paintings on the wall. All in all, another great city adventure, despite the fact that my legs are a bit sore at the moment. Hopefully they’ll feel better tomorrow, because Christine and I intend to fulfill our yearlong goal of walking the Brooklyn Bridge. It seems like everyone’s DNY class did that except for us, so we vowed that we would do so. And as I said, we intend to achieve that goal tomorrow.
Let’s see, what else… I’ve been very good about going to bed at a decent hour, my sleeping schedule is what some people might call bordering on normal. My room is kind of a mess at the moment, but as a whole I’ve been keeping it clean, neat, and organized. I know, craziness. Cari having control over her life.
“Look What You’ve Done” video. <3 Insomniac Theater <3
So, to sum up, things have been positively peachy lately. Honestly, my life is just amazing. I don’t even know what else to say.
Technology… just did something nice for me. As I was typing this entry, my asshole of a laptop decided it would be fun to freeze on me. My anger began to escalate as I restarted it. Then the “DOA” video came on and my anger slowly turned to lust. Dave Grohl, I want you. So badly. And when I turned the laptop back on, I discovered that this had been auto-saved because I am typing it in word instead of the LJ website. I’m positively flabbergasted. Technology, being kind to Cari? This is unheard of.
Which reminds me, I got a new phone! That’s right kiddies, no black blob! And I have unlimited text and picture messaging, so go ahead and send me some of those! (Same number, but I lost my phone book, so if you haven’t given me yours yet, please do so.)
“Have a Nice Day” video. I… love this song. So much. Honestly, the littlest things make me so happy. I want to see Bon Jovi live.
Some things to look forward to:
Sunday, September 25: Gavin Degraw/Joss Stone concert with Christine and Christie
Friday, September 30: The Killers with Cabe and Ang at JONES BEACH! And Angie’s here for the weekend!
October 7: Home for the weekend for Dad and Kati’s birthday. Dinner for Mac’s birthday. And I’m told other remedies will be home?
October 14: FOO FIGHTERS AND WEEZER with Cabe and Ang (Concert Whores and Damn Proud)
October 21: Seeing Movin’ Out with my mom
Love the new Franz Ferdinand video!
Wow. That’s three full pages in Microsoft Word. Between that, my laptop’s battery losing charge, and it being 5 AM, I’m done.
Love you all more than Marissa loves Ryan!
(They’re finally gonna have sex!!!!!!)
I really want that CD that Gap is promoting, but I will never spend $60 at Gap, so I guess I’m out of luck.
I did not proofread this entry. Apologies for all typos.
Billie Joe’s love for Adrienne is too beautiful for words.
THAT 70’S SHOW QUOTE OF THE ENTRY:
Kitty Forman: Ok. Ok. Let's just keep the game going.
[picks a card]
Kitty Forman: Donna. If you were a shoe, whose shoe would you be?
Donna Pinciotti: Well, I wouldn't want to be Red's shoe because it's about to go into somebody's ass.
